Bald
Head Island, NC

I've been
visiting Bald Head Island since 1980, and I've been hearing about it since 1970
when my parents and Aunt & Uncle bought a piece of oceanfront property. Back in the day, the streets were sand and folks drove old
Jeeps, and I remember we had a old Postal truck painted like a Zebra. My
first boat ride to the island found me out on the deck of the 25' boat,
struggling to put a tarp over our luggage as waves and wind-blown rain
pelted us. Once on the island, we unloaded all our own bags and arranged
our own way to one of the original 11 houses in the "Generator Society".
At the time there was no electricity on the island, so we'd run the
generator a couple of hours a day to do dishes and flush toilets. Things
have changed since the early days, thank goodness! Now Bald Head is one
of the nicest resort in all of Southeastern North Carolina.
